Competitive athletes and left atrial remodeling.

چکیده
The 37-month matrix for the distribution of events and the presence of coronary calcium for asymptomatic men is detailed in Table 1. Finally, assuming a sensitivity of 30%, a specificity of 98%, and a 10-year event risk of 10%, the positive predictive value of a non-0 calcium score would be 13.5%, and the negative predictive value of a 0 calcium score would be 99%, numbers in line with published data.

Prevalence and clinical significance of left atrial remodeling in competitive athletes.
OBJECTIVES In the present study we assessed the distribution and clinical significance of left atrial (LA) size in the context of athlete's heart and the differential diagnosis from structural heart disease, as well as the proclivity to supraventricular arrhythmias. BACKGROUND The prevalence, clinical significance, and long-term arrhythmic consequences of LA enlargement in competitive athlete...
متن کاملMorphological and functional adaptation of left and right atria induced by training in highly trained female athletes.
BACKGROUND Exercise is able to induce atrial remodeling in top-level athletes. However, evidence is mainly limited to men and based on cross-sectional studies. The aim of this prospective, longitudinal study was to investigate whether exercise is able to influence left and right atrial morphology and function also in female athletes. :ETHODS AND RESULTS- Two-dimensional echocardiography was per...
متن کاملThe impact of anabolic androgenic steroids abuse and type of training on left ventricular remodeling and function in competitive athletes.
BACKGROUND/AIM Long-term intensive training is associated with distinctive cardiac adaptations which are known as athlete's heart. The aim of this study was to determine whether the use of anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) could affect echocardiographic parameters of left ventricular (LV) morphology and function in elite strength and endurance athletes. METHODS A total of 20 elite strength a...
متن کاملDeterminants of echocardiographic left atrial volume: implications for normalcy.
AIMS The relative role of multiple determinants of left atrial volume index (LAVi) in athletes and non-athletes is not fully defined. Thus, we decided to prospectively assess the determinants of LAVi in healthy individuals and competitive athletes over a wide age range. METHODS AND RESULTS Four hundred and eighteen healthy individuals (mean age 41.7 ± 15.6 years, range 16-84, 65% males, 38% c...
متن کاملAtrial Fibrillation In Athletes: Pathophysiology, Clinical Presentation, Evaluation and Management.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia in athletes, especially in middle-aged athletes. Studies have demonstrated that athletes who engage in endurance sports such as runners, cyclists and skiers are more prone to AF than other athletes. The effects of exercise on the onset and progression of AF is complex. Triggers of AF in athletes may include atrial ectopy and sports ...
